Amazon Liquidation Pallets: Highest Ceiling, Highest Variance

ASIN-level manifests make Amazon loads the easiest to research and the hardest to predict.

The short answer

What Amazon liquidation loads contain, how good the goods really are, the pros and cons, and how to price a load before you bid.

Where Amazon liquidation inventory comes from

Amazon Liquidation Auctions (retailer marketplace), FBA liquidation programs, and wholesalers who break truckloads into pallets.

Typical category mix

Everything: consumer electronics, tools, home, toys, apparel, and a heavy tail of third-party seller goods. High-ticket items appear more often than at any other source.

Quality reality check

Highest variance in the industry. LPN-labeled returns pallets contain untested items in whatever state a customer sent them back. Grade labels reflect Amazon's own triage, and "unprocessed" means unknown.

Pros

  • ASINs make market research and comps precise
  • Occasional single items can cover the cost of the whole pallet
  • Enormous category diversity

Cons

  • Missing accessories and empty boxes are routine
  • Brand gating restricts where you can resell
  • Testing labor per unit is the highest of any source

How to analyze a load before you bid

  1. Download the manifest from the marketplace hosting the lot.
  2. Confirm whether retail values are unit-level or extended totals.
  3. Upload the file to PalletIQ Analyze.
  4. Add the buyer's premium and freight quote so the Max Bid is landed.
  5. Compare the Max Bid to the current bid and walk away if there is no gap.

Pro tip

Model Amazon returns loads with an explicit functional rate. Running the same manifest at 60% and 85% functional and comparing the two Max Bid outputs is the fastest way to see how much risk you are actually taking.
